Baba Balaknath Ji’s Story

Lord Shiva and Baba Balak Nath share a deep spiritual connection, with Baba Balak Nath believed to be an incarnation of Kartikeya, Shiva’s son. Both are revered in Hinduism, representing divine wisdom and protection, hence their joint worship and aarties.

Story of Baba Balaknath

Babaji’s story can be read in the immortal story of Baba Balakanath. It is believed that Baba Balak Nath has been born in all ages such as Kisat Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and the current Kali Yuga. He was known by a different name in Haraka Yuga, like Skanda in Satya Yuga, Kaula in Treta Yuga and Maha Kaula in Dwapara Yuga. By helping the poor and the needy in his incarnation, Babaji removed their pain and suffering. He called himself a very big devotee of Lord Shiva.

Baba Balak Nath wrote well, after that Nanaji succeeded in meeting Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was very happy to see the child Mahakaul. He blessed Babaji who was worshiped as a perfect icon among the devotees till the age of Kokal. Lord Shiva blessed her forever and made her image like that of a child. It is said that in the present age, that is, in Kali Yuga, Baba Balakanath was born in Kathiyabad, Gujarat with the name of Dev.

Babaji’s mother’s name is Lakshmi and father’s name is Vaishnovaishtha. Babaji was absorbed in spirituality even from childhood. Seeing this, his mother – father did not want to marry him, but his father did not listen to him and left his family and went on the path of Paramsiddhi. One day Swami Dattatreya met him in the Girnar hill of Junagadh. At this place, Babaji received the basic education from Swami Dattatreya and became a Siddha.

It is believed that Babaji reached a place called Shahlatai (District Bilaspur) during his pilgrimage. However, there is a belief among the devotees that even at the tender age of 3, Baba Balakanath left his home and traveled to Chardham and reached Shahat. It is believed that a woman living in Shahlat, who had no children, made Babaji a son of his own religion. Baba Balkanath grazed the cows of his mother for 12 years, in return he used to feed his mother Babaji Koroti and lassi.

It is believed that Babaji was so engrossed in his penance that he never went without eating bread and milk given by Ratna. Once upon a time, Mother Ratna was criticizing Babaji that she does not take good care of the cows, while Ratna takes good care of Babaji’s food and drink. After beating the mother’s jewels, Babaji stood in the fields and showed the crops. When Baba struck a pair of tongs at the washing place, twelve years’ worth of loaves came out of the opening, another pair of tongs hit the ground and a shower of ghee came out.

A dam was built there due to which this place was called Chhachtalai and then became Shahlat. It is said that the place where the Lassikat Lab is built is still standing today. The ancient banyan tree and the incense under it are known as Babaji’s heritage. At a distance of 800 meters from this tree, there is Pratlai Bazar, in one corner of which there is a mangrove bush temple. The age of this tree is only up to 50 years, but by the power of Babaji, this tree has survived for centuries.

It is also said that once Guru Gorakhnath came to this place with his disciples. Gorakhnath wanted to test Babji’s powers and as such Babaji faced severe challenges. After being satisfied with his proven powers, Babaji stopped using force with the disciples of Gorakhnath, flew in the sky and reached Dhaulgiri cave and settled there.

Mataratna came near the bush and when she could not find Babajikoro – she would stop and call. Hearing the mother’s call, Babaji appeared once again and explained that in the age of prayer, Kailash Dhamjar Hathato stayed with you for twelve hours and received guidance from you to see Lord Shankar. In exchange for those 12 hours, I served you for twelve years. After being bound by your love, I stopped at the bush of the garden for some time.

Our hope for your victory is now fulfilled, yet we know that you will pass away to God for my visions. That’s why I will install a lamp in my name in my house and light it and make my call and show it to me. After this, the mothers made an altar of Babaji in their house, worshiped him there and offered fire on the first day of the month, and then they used to give darshan of Babaji’s mother altar near the altar.

It is believed that Baba Balakanathji diverted the flow of the mountain’s cracks to the other side with his tongs. Since then this place is known by the name of Ghera. Just as Baba Balak Nath Ji’s Siddh Peeth Diot is famous far and wide, Shahatlai (Yahamba Baba Balak Nath grazed cows for 12 years), is recognized far and wide as Baba Ji’s Siddh Bhumi. Babaji’s worship is done by burning incense in the Aarti according to folk law. At the time of pooja, he sang something in a high voice.
